Membership on the Parish Council is currently very low and there is a danger that there will not be enough members to hold Parish Council meetings. If this happens the parish will lose its voice to represent the community on planning issues, crime and safety, the environment, highways and local services.
The position of Parish Councillor is often considered enjoyable and is rarely onerous, with approximately six meetings per year lasting only around 1.5 hours each. The position is unpaid and voluntary, but some expenses such as training are paid.
There are currently up to four vacancies on the Parish Council. No previous experience is necessary but to join you must:
• be over 18 and on the electoral register or a resident of the parish or live within three miles of the parish as the crow flies or own a business in the parish
• be able to attend evening meetings every other month
• have a desire to improve the quality of life in the parish
• be able to represent the views of local people
